(2) Homeowners have a right to have a professional inspector present at inspections carried out by the Nevada State Contractors Board.

HOMEOWNER STATEMENTS

Statement 1:
When the Nevada State Contractor's Board came to my house to do the inspection, they told me I could not have my own private inspector present. This was a real problem for me because I had difficulty locating and arguing with the builder and the Contractor's Board about what was broken and why I thought my builder should fix the items.

For example, the Contractor's Board said my builder had either dropped or damaged my dishwasher and made the builder replace the dishwasher and remediate mold. But, I had also reported that my refrigerator had also been defective since the move-in. The water dispenser has never worked and sometimes the freezer door gets stuck shut and sometimes it just opens up on it's own. I have to keep a heavy chair in front of the refrigerator, otherwise the freezer will defrost and water gets on the floor. The Contractor's Board did not make my builder fix or replace the refrigerator. Both of the appliances were purchased from the builder's design center. I think the builder should have had to replace both appliances.

Also, my private inspector wrote a report that said that my wooden foundation was possibly rotting and/or had mold due to an incorrectly installed weep screed. Both my builder and the Contractor's Board refused to inspect the wood up inside my weep screed with a hand held mirror. Thus, they never even saw or inspected the wood. I think this would have gone differently if my private inspector had been allowed to represent me.

Sincerely,
